Kris Kirilova, MA, LPC – Career Counselor & Therapist in Chicago suburbs

Career Counselor Chicago

As a professional counselor, I specialize in life transitions, career counseling, adjusting to change, and improving personal or professional relationships. I find that work and love are fundamental parts of life, and I see my work as helping people find fulfillment in their personal life and career.  In addition to my training as a career counselor, I am a therapist, and part of a group practice at the Midwest Institute & Center in Elmhurst, IL.

Approach
I offer a warm and collaborative atmosphere to help you explore options, reconnect with your inner compass, and work toward your goals.  I realize your personal and professional life often impact each other, and with some guidance, you can find courage and direction in times of transition.  My style is integrative with a focus on cognitive behavioral approaches, narrative career counseling, and solution-focused therapy.

Education and Training:

  • Master’s Degree (MA) in Clinical Psychology, Roosevelt University
  • Northwestern University, Supervised Counseling Internship, Career Development & Planning
  • Bachelor’s degree of Art, DePaul University
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Professional Memberships: Illinois Counseling Association, National Career Development Association

Career Change Experience:

As a career changer, myself, I understand what is like to feel unhappy and dissatisfied. Unlike most career coaches, I have a counseling background, which means you can explore deeper issues that might hold you back.  In my earlier work,  I worked with students at Northwestern University and helped them with career choices, transitions, and personal concerns.

My first career was in Corporate America where I managed information systems. I still appreciate technology and innovation but the role of an advisor and counselor has been so natural and fulfilling. In my search for meaning and desire to make an impact in the lives of others, I changed careers to counseling & coaching.

Culturally Sensitive Lens:

I have a special interest in expats, immigrants, and individuals acclimating to a new place or adjusting to a new culture/lifestyle.

My cultural background and abroad experience have given me an insight of the unique challenges and concerns of bi-cultural individuals, expats, international students living in between two countries, and adjusting to a new culture. Originally from Bulgaria, I have traveled to different foreign countries and enjoy learning about foreign cultures and traditions.

I love what I do, and look forward to partnering with you!

I enjoy being with my clients on their journey to self-development, overcoming challenges, and finding the resources to grow and actualize their full potential.
